The Opening Titles of the film Panic Room (2002) gives us a tiny hint into what is about to come up in the film.
Genre: From watching the opening titles of the clip, I could establish the genre that I thought the film was, which I thought it was an action/thriller/crime. The reason why I chose this hybrid of genres is because the opening titles make it seem like it could be an action/thriller because it looks like there could be some sore of car chases through the city. The reason why I also chose crime is because the whole setting seems eerie and like there is going to be some sort of crime committed.
Narrative: The narrative of the opening titles is not really easy to pick up as it doesn't really tell the story but from what I could hear and see was a woman's voice talking over the directors title at the end which makes it seem like the woman will be in control throughout the rest of the film. Also the opening titles only show the city which is a vast and dense place for weird things to happen in.
Characters: As I just said in terms of characters the main thing I can get from the opening titles is that there will be a woman in there.
Atmosphere: The atmosphere within the opening titles I thought was very eerie/fast paced and sinister because the whole thing of it being in the city and the music just makes it really eerie.
Themes: I think the themes in this opening title sequence could be some sort of work in the city/someone getting trapped because there is a city involved and the title Panic Rom suggests that.
Setting: The whole setting of this film from seeing the opening titles is that I feel it is in New York City as you can see the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building in the background.
Sound: The non-diegetic music in the opening titles has quite a big effect on what I think the film will be about as the music is very eerie/tense and mysterious which could make me suspect about a crime waiting to happen.
Titles: The titles in the opening titles sequence look metallic and are quite hard too see but have been cleverly done as they are balloons on the side of buildings in New York. Columbia Pictures are the institution that made the film and one of the big actresses in it is Jodie Foster. The title Panic Room suggests to me that there will be someone trapped in a room and there is no way out.
